The Story Behind The Sound
My background in writing and producing metal still shapes VHS PANTY RIOT: riffs, memorable melodies, heavy breakdowns and quieter bridges that give the songs room to breathe. I write and produce in Ableton Live, building the tracks around synths, bass and drums, with space for the melodies and atmosphere to develop. The horror atmosphere and melancholy matter as much as the aggression.
THE BALLOON WAS A JOKE
UNTIL IT WASN’T
VHS PANTY RIOT started as a ridiculous idea that made me laugh: 80s horror soundtrack music with a modern metal edge, fake slasher energy, a stupid name, and a red balloon floating where it didn’t belong. Then the balloon stopped feeling like a joke.
It became hope, humour, memory, sanity, the good thing you try to keep hold of when life starts to cut. The knife is the part that does not need explaining.
So the music lives between them: big drums, ugly bass, horror synths, ridiculous titles, and something real underneath the noise. Read more about how Carpenter Brut inspired VPR.

THE FIRST TAPE
VHS PANTY RIOT starts as a one person darksynth project with a simple brief: horror music made with synths, big drums, filthy bass, and actual songs.
EARLY 2026
THE SOUND GETS WORSE
The first tracks go out. The sound starts taking shape: darker, heavier, less polite, more like a slasher soundtrack that has been left near a faulty plug socket.

YOU’RE PRETTY WHEN YOU PANIC
The first proper single from KISS KISS CUT CUT arrives. A heavier, sharper version of the project starts crawling out of the tape.
